Have you ever reviewed your content as a website visitor or one of your subscribers?
When your subscribers read your blog posts on your website or in your newsletter, if it’s difficult to read, they won’t stay long to finish reading it.
Not many people are going to take the time to decipher all that you have to offer them, when it’s difficult for them to visually digest. They’ll simply move on to the next item or piece of content in their day.
Simply put, we live in a world that has far less time for all of the info that is out there, therefore make it easy for them to read.
The way to do that is quite simple – here’s some basic content editing factors to remember:
- Large font – Whether the content is being viewed on a computer or a phone, your font size needs to be large enough. Using a font size of 11 or smaller is just too tiny. A font size of 14 is a good standard size to choose.
- Spaces – White space, white space, white space!….Make sure you have at least a single space between your paragraphs, headers etc in your content otherwise it will appear as one large chunk of information and it will overwhelm your website visitors or mailing list when they initially view your article.
- Bullets – Bullets help organize information and are the best way to list important points in the content. They help the readers visually digest the content better by it being broken into smaller sections.
- Bold or italics or both – Fonts that are bold or italicized also help important parts of the blog post stand out and therefore aid in easier absorption of the information.
Once you have formatted your content, remember to test your blog post to ensure the content appears the way you want it to. Looking at it in the way that your readers do, helps you see where you need to improve the formatting, if need be.
